For the transitional period, default emission factors for electricity are provided based on data from the International Energy Agency (IEA) covering a 5-year average. These factors are available per country in the CBAM Transitional Registry. Alternatively, any other emission factor from the country of origin’s grid may be used if publicly available. Both the electricity emission factor and the CO2 emission factor are acceptable.
Actual emission factors for electricity may be utilized in cases of a direct technical link between the electricity-generating source and the production installation of the CBAM good or in instances of a power purchase agreement between the electricity producer and consumer.
Dubrink’s CBAM compliance software streamlines the process by providing access to default emission factors and facilitating the use of alternative factors, ensuring accurate determination of indirect emissions.
